Army Sgt. Michelle Rudzitis was deployed to Iraq in July 2006. On January 22, 2007, the Hummer Michelle was riding in was hit by a roadside bomb (EFP) near Baghdad, Iraq. Of the four people in the vehicle, Michelle was one of only two to survive the attack.

Michelle was severely wounded, losing her left leg from just above
the knee, and shattering her right pelvis and femur. She also had a collapsed lung which has been repaired. After being evacuated to Landstuhl, Germany, Michelle arrived at Walter Reed Army Medical Center on Friday, January 26, 2007.

Michelle has undergone several surgeries. She is doing well and is looking forward to the day she can return home to Michigan.
